Dearborn Observatory

The Dearborn Observatory is located on the Northwestern University campus. Housed inside the dome is an 18.5" Clark Refractor. The orginal lenses, made in 1861, are still used today although they are now housed inside a new telescope. The original telescope now resides at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Alvan Clark and Sons were the finest lens makers of the 19th century. Their telescopes are still used by many other University Observatories around the country, including University of Virginia's McCormick Observatory and University of Chicago's Yerkes Observatory.
