Frozen Lake Michigan

If you listen closely, standing on the shore of Lake Michigan, you can hear the sound of water gently moving beneath the ice, and every now and then, the cracking grinding sound of ice breaking and pushing up against itself. The ducks and geese love to hang out right on the edge of the ice, so they can push off into the water whenever the mood strikes. This picture of Lake Michigan was taken in Evanston, IL. You can find information about the Great Lakes temperature and ice coverage from NOAA CoastWatch. The image of temperature and ice coverage is updated daily, and you can view movies of past years surface temperature.
