This
past Thursday and Friday, I attended an Illinois Depository Library
Conference at the Illinois
State Library in Springfield.
The State Capitol is just
across the street from the library, and we paid a visit on Friday afternoon
when the conference was over. there is a balcony in both the House and
the Senate where the public are welcome to come and watch their government
in action. The House seemed
to be out to lunch, but we did sit in on the Senate
session for about five minutes. They passed about 6 Bills while we were
watching, Which we could follow by watching one of the two scoreboards
in the room which shows the bill number and name, and tallies the votes
as they are entered. To signal the start of voting, a bell rings, and
the Senators all begin entering their votes. It was really cool! |
